This study examined secondary students learning about fossil fuels and climate change both in-person and virtually during the COVID-19 pandemic. Higher-level evaluations and plausibility shifts predicted greater knowledge gains, with no significant difference between instructional modes. These findings suggest that well-designed, scaffolded science instruction can adapt effectively to various settings.
