Julianne Meerten

In 2017, Julianne graduated with Honors from University College Roosevelt, a small Liberal Arts & Sciences College in Middelburg, the Netherlands. She majored in Linguistics and Religion and pursued an Educational Minor under the supervision of Dr. Remy Rikers and Dr. Sofie Loyens. During that Minor, she discovered her true interests: teaching, learning, and learning about learning. She is currently a doctoral candidate in Educational Psychology in the department of Human Development and Quantitative Methodology at the University of Maryland, College Park.

Some of Julianne’s recent publications include a co-authored contribution to a Special Issue on critical thinking as well as a co-authored contribution to a Special Issue on argumentation. She is preparing several manuscripts for publications including a systematic review of academic writing interventions in higher education and an investigation into undergraduate students’ online search behaviors when conducting a multiple source use task. Additionally, for the past five years, she has taught several undergraduate courses, including Learning How to Learn and Educational Psychology.

Julianne is currently developing her dissertation study on how undergraduate students learn through the process of writing and hopes to graduate in the summer of 2024. 

In her free time, she enjoys listening to music, reading, FaceTiming family overseas, and singing in a choir.
